Drainage and concrete cutting often seem to go hand in hand. Outdoors, true drainage issues only reveal themselves after the concrete slab has been laid. While indoors, renovations often require the passage for drainage pipes to carry waste water through concrete floors and brick walls. Working around existing structures is where concrete cutting professionals really come into their own.
Cutting drainage channels in a concrete slab
It’s a common scenario. A concrete slab is laid with all the best intentions. The first downpour however reveals the slope is not quite correct and water begins pooling near a wall or doorway. With nowhere to go, the water lies stagnant leading to stains, rising damp or just acting as an unsightly inconvenience on your newly created area.
Concrete cutting can easily cut a drainage channel in new or old concrete slabs to create a straight and uniform path for water to escape. For smaller jobs a hand-held saw may be a quick and easy solution. Medium-sized jobs may need a track-mounted saw allows a perfectly straight channel to be made in one clean cut over a few metres. For much longer channels, a road saw is most effective.
Cutting passages for pipes and drainage holes
Many home renovations focus on an overhaul of the kitchen and bathroom. This means water needs to come into and out of the room often in different places than it once did. Put simply, you need pipes! Pipes need to go through walls, floors and roofs in the most discrete way possible.
Concrete drilling makes putting holes through almost any substance a breeze. Holes over a metre deep and a metre wide can be made using special diamond-coated core drills. Core drills are often set up in a rig so that the hole is made exactly where it needs to go and also come out the other side in the right spot! Core drills holes can be made at any angle needed to feed the piping through.
Combining drainage channels and holes
In reality, with drainage, there is a combination of holes and channels required to all line up to take water away effectively. To prevent water going where it shouldn’t all drainage needs to be precise. Professional concrete cutters can plan and make cuts to line up perfectly so all piping fits and water gets carried away correctly.
